Care and maintenance of vacuum pumps

01-07-2024

The maintenance and upkeep of vacuum pumps are essential to ensure their long-term stable operation, increase their service life, and ensure work efficiency. The following are some key contents about the maintenance and upkeep of vacuum pumps:

1. Regular inspection and replacement

Oil level inspection: When the vacuum pump is running, the oil level should be kept at the center of the oil mark. If it does not meet the requirements, it needs to be adjusted in time.

Oil quality inspection: Check the oil quality frequently, and replace the oil with new oil in time if the oil is found to be deteriorated. Generally, for new vacuum pumps, when extracting clean and dry gas, it is recommended to change the oil once every 100 hours of work. After no ferrous metal powder can be seen in the oil, the oil change period can be appropriately extended.

Seal inspection: Check the aging degree of rubber seals regularly, and replace them in time if cracking or aging is found.

2. Cleaning and overhaul

Cleaning the vacuum pump: The vacuum pump should be overhauled after 2000 hours of work. Use gasoline to clean the rotor, vane, spring, etc. in the entire vacuum pump cavity, and dry them. Rubber parts can be wiped dry with a dry cloth after cleaning.

Check the exhaust valve plate: Check whether the exhaust valve plate is cracked, and clean the dirt deposited on the valve plate and the exhaust valve seat.

3. Lubrication and tightening

Bearing lubrication: Add bearing lubricating oil to the bearing body to ensure that the oil level is at the center line of the oil mark. Lubricating oil should be replaced or replenished in time.

Tighten the pipeline: Check whether the vacuum pump pipeline and joints are loose to ensure that the connection is tight.

4. Operation and maintenance

Operation temperature: During the operation of the vacuum pump, the bearing temperature shall not exceed the ambient temperature of 35℃, and the maximum temperature shall not exceed 80℃.

Trial operation: After the vacuum pump is reassembled, a trial operation should be carried out. Generally, it is necessary to run it idle for 2 hours and change the oil twice. After it runs normally, it can be put into normal operation.

5. Precautions

Anti-freezing measures: When used in the cold winter season, the drain plug at the bottom of the pump body needs to be unscrewed after parking to drain the medium to prevent freezing and cracking.

Shutdown sequence: When the vacuum pump needs to be stopped, the gate valve and pressure gauge must be closed first, and then the motor must be stopped.
