Causes and Treatment of Pump Vibration

24-04-2024
  • Vibration Caused by Motor Issues

Fault Diagnosis: Check if the vibration of the motor exceeds that of the pump or if it's solely from the motor.

Treatment: Repair or replace the motor.

  • Vibration Caused by Cavitation

Fault Diagnosis: Unusual sounds in the pump, such as the friction of sand or stones inside.

Treatment: Clear out any sand or stones in the pump to resolve vibration.

  • Vibration Caused by Coupling

Fault Diagnosis: Disassemble the column pin and measure if the distance between the pump coupling and the motor coupling holes is consistent.

Treatment: Replace the coupling and column pin.

  • Vibration Caused by Rotor Wear

Fault Diagnosis: Decrease in pump flow rate after prolonged operation, accompanied by increased current and decreased pressure.

Treatment: Disassemble the pump and inspect the wear and clearance of impellers, throat bushings, guide vanes, and throttle devices. If clearances exceed 1 millimeter, replacement is necessary. Shaft deflection over 0.08 millimeters warrants replacement. Minor wear on impellers can be repaired.

  • Vibration Caused by Foundation Pipework

Fault Diagnosis: Loose foundation, base vibration exceeding pump vibration, loosened anchor bolts, foundation sinking or cracking.

Treatment: Reconstruct the concrete foundation and tighten anchor bolts.

  • Vibration Caused by Bearings

Fault Diagnosis: Lack of lubrication in bearings, high bearing temperatures.

Treatment: Add lubricating oil to bearings and reduce bearing temperature.
