Methods to prevent self-priming pump from running dry

26-08-2024

Preventing the self-priming pump from running dry is an important measure to ensure the normal operation of the self-priming pump and extend its service life. The following are some specific methods to prevent the self-priming pump from running dry:

1. Inspection and preparation before starting

Voltage stability check: Before starting, you should first confirm whether the power supply voltage is stable to avoid abnormal operation of the self-priming pump due to voltage fluctuations.

Three-phase power supply check: For three-phase self-priming pumps, it is necessary to confirm whether the order of the three-phase power supply is correct and whether there is a phase loss phenomenon. If the three phases are not connected in sequence, it may cause the pump to fail to pump water, and the phase loss operation will cause the shaft motor to burn.

Pump body water filling: Before starting the operation, you must manually add enough liquid to the pump body. This step is crucial because the self-priming pump needs to use the liquid to carry away the heat generated by the friction of the front shaft seal and the fixing ring during operation, thereby preventing the machine from burning. The liquid position must fill at least 80% of the pump body to ensure that the liquid can be transported to the sealing component position before operation.

2. Install protective devices

Bottom valve and check valve:

Bottom valve: Installing a bottom valve at the water inlet can effectively prevent foreign matter from being sucked into the pump body, and at the same time ensure that the pump body can maintain a certain liquid level when it is shut down, preventing idling due to too low a liquid level.

Check valve: Installing a check valve at the water outlet can prevent instantaneous backflow during shutdown, protect the pump itself from damage, and prevent idling due to backflow.

Water injection bucket and liquid level controller:

Install a water injection bucket and use a liquid level controller (such as a float switch) to monitor the liquid level in the pump body. When the liquid level is lower than the set value, the liquid level controller will automatically start the water injection system to add liquid to the pump body to prevent idling.

3. Daily maintenance and inspection

Regular inspection: Regularly perform maintenance and inspection on the self-priming pump, including checking the wear of the sealing parts, the contact of the power supply line, etc., to promptly discover and deal with potential problems.

Cleaning and maintenance: Keep the self-priming pump and the surrounding environment clean, regularly clean up impurities and dirt in the pump body, and ensure that the inside of the pump body is unobstructed.

Professional training: Provide professional training to operators to make them understand the working principle, operation method and precautions of the self-priming pump, and improve their operation level and safety awareness.

Through the implementation of correct measures, the occurrence of idling of the self-priming pump can be effectively prevented, ensuring the normal operation and long-term stability of the self-priming pump.
