Types of connections between centrifugal pumps and motors
There are mainly the following types of connection methods between centrifugal pumps and motors:
1. Coupling connection
Definition: Coupling connection is a common way to connect the motor and centrifugal pump through a coupling. The function of the coupling is to transmit torque and rotational motion, and it can also relieve vibration and impact, thereby protecting the bearings of the motor and pump.
Features:
Simple structure, easy installation, and good durability.
But there are also some disadvantages, such as limited amplitude, high assembly precision requirements, and the elasticity of the coupling will affect the torque.
Types of couplings:
Rigid centrifugal pump coupling: two annular flanges, cannot adjust the concentricity of the pump shaft and the motor shaft, and require high installation precision. It is often used for small water pump units and easy-to-handle centrifugal pump units.
Flexible centrifugal pump coupling: uses the elastic deformation of elastic elements to compensate for the deflection and displacement of the two shafts, and has buffering and damping properties, such as snake spring centrifugal pump coupling, radial multi-layer spring centrifugal pump coupling, etc.
2. Flange connection
Definition: Flange connection is a method of fixing the centrifugal pump and the motor on a base with flanges and connecting them with flange bolts.
Features:
Suitable for high-power and high-flow applications.
Firm connection, easy installation and simple maintenance.
But there are also some disadvantages, such as high manufacturing precision requirements and the need to occupy a larger installation space.
3. Direct connection
Definition: Direct connection is a connection method that directly connects the centrifugal pump and the motor together without an intermediate piece.
Features:
Suitable for small flow and low power applications.
Simple structure, easy installation, no coupling, reduced noise, etc.
But there are also some disadvantages, such as large vibration and unstable torque.
Comprehensive consideration
When choosing the connection method between the centrifugal pump and the motor, it is necessary to decide according to the specific application scenario and requirements. For example, for applications with high power and high flow, flange connection may be more suitable; for applications with small flow and low power, direct connection or coupling connection can be selected. In addition, factors such as installation space, manufacturing cost, and maintenance convenience need to be considered.
