Water pump sealing type

23-08-2024

There are various forms of water pump sealing, the main purpose of which is to prevent the fluid inside the pump body from leaking to the external environment and to prevent external impurities from entering the pump body. The following are some common water pump sealing forms:

1. Packing seal (packing seal, soft packing seal)

Principle: By filling the gap between the pump casing and the shaft with sealing materials (such as asbestos rope, carbon fiber soft glue, etc.), the elastic deformation and compression of the sealing material are used to prevent fluid leakage.

Features: Simple structure, easy installation and maintenance, but the sealing performance is affected by factors such as the type of packing, the degree of compression and the surface condition of the shaft.

Application: Suitable for low pressure and low speed occasions.

2. Mechanical seal

Principle: It is composed of a dynamic ring (rotating ring), a static ring (fixed ring), an elastic element (such as a spring), a sealing element (such as an "O" ring), etc., and a sealing surface is formed by the close fit of the dynamic ring and the static ring to prevent fluid leakage.

Features: Good sealing performance, small leakage, long service life, but complex structure, high installation accuracy and maintenance requirements.

Application: Widely used in medium and high pressure, high speed occasions, and water pumps that need long-term stable operation.

3. Labyrinth seal

Principle: A series of interlaced grooves or tooth structures (labyrinth) are used to make the fluid throttle and expand multiple times when passing through, thereby consuming the energy of the fluid and achieving the purpose of preventing leakage.

Features: No contact, no wear, suitable for harsh working conditions such as high speed, high temperature, and high pressure.

Application: It is more common in high-speed rotating water pumps such as centrifugal pumps and axial flow pumps.

4. Floating ring seal

Principle: Floating ring seal is a special form of sealing, which achieves sealing through the small gap between the floating ring and the shaft and the fluid dynamic effect.

Features: Stable sealing performance and strong adaptability, but the structure is relatively complex.

Application: In some special working conditions, such as when corrosive fluids or high-temperature and high-pressure fluids need to be handled, floating ring seals have unique advantages.

In addition, there are other sealing forms such as flat gasket seals, double cone seals, B-ring seals and Wood seals, each of which has different characteristics and scope of application. When choosing the sealing form of the water pump, it is necessary to comprehensively consider factors such as the working conditions, medium characteristics, speed, and pressure of the pump.
